Pathway Lending CDFI presents License to Build, a comprehensive 6-week course designed to equip minority tradesmen in Chattanooga with the knowledge and skills necessary to establish a strong business foundation and prepare for obtaining a general contractor license. This program covers essential business principles, project management strategies, legal and financial considerations, and industry best practices to help participants build sustainable and scalable construction businesses.
Course Overview
Week 1: Introduction & Business Planning
Participants will gain an understanding of the construction industry, the role of general contractors, and the importance of establishing a solid business model. This module covers business goal setting, market analysis, and competitive positioning to help tradesmen define their niche and target audience.
Week 2: Project Management & Technology Integration
This session introduces effective project planning, scheduling, and risk management strategies. Participants will also explore the latest construction technologies, including project management software, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and automation tools to improve efficiency. Additionally, human resources management, employee safety, and team collaboration will be discussed.
Week 3: Marketing, Branding & Networking
Tradesmen will learn how to develop a strong marketing strategy, build a professional brand presence, and manage client relationships. This module also emphasizes the importance of industry networking, collaborating with suppliers and subcontractors, and engaging with professional associations to expand business opportunities.
